2023 Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist Opening

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program is a federal rental subsidy program that pays a portion of participants’ monthly rent (the exact portion is determined by participants’ income). Participants can choose where they want to live in Arlington County, just like any other renter.

There are a limited number of vouchers available, so the Arlington Housing Choice Voucher Program (AHCVP) maintains a Waitlist of eligible households. On average, AHCVP only opens the Waitlist for application every 10-20 years.

After the application period is completed in September 2023, AHCVP will conduct a lottery and retain 5,000 applicants on the HCV Waitlist going forward.

Application Period:

8:00 a.m. EDT Wednesday, September 13, 2023 - 11:59 p.m. EDT Saturday, September 23, 2023.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or a non-citizen with documented and eligible immigration status. Because the Housing Choice Voucher Program is a federally funded program, Arlington County Government has no control over this requirement.

Furthermore, you must be income eligible. Currently, that means you must make no more than the following in annual income, depending on family size:

Income Limits
Family Size Income Limit Family Size Income Limit
1  $52,750 5  $81,400
 2   $60,300 6  $87,450
3  $67,850 7  $93,450
4  $75,350 8  $99,500
