Technology Services

Who We Are

The mission of the Department of Technology Services (DTS) is to provide excellent customer service through technology leadership and expertise in support of the strategic goals and priorities of Arlington County while ensuring digital dexterity, innovation, security and sustainability through technology.  The staff in DTS continuously seek new and innovative ways to grow the County’s technology and knowledge assets and leverage them to improve its citizen-centric services. With a team of dedicated and talented technology professionals who partner with trusted, industry-leading technology vendors, as well as staff augmentation partners, we deliver innovative and reliable solutions to meet organizational needs.

What We Do

We serve the County by embracing existing and emerging technologies to achieve better business outcomes while incorporating innovation, security, and sustainability. DTS supports a broad and increasingly complex portfolio of work that spans infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise systems, digital services, data, and innovation. In addition, we provide an increasing number of direct public services, such as free public wireless internet connectivity.

Strategic Goals

Arlington County’s Digital Strategy defines a framework to provide individuals access the information they need, when they need it, and the way they want it. Our approach incorporates reaching out to the community, our partners, and others to transform the way we live and work. Our technology investments will focus on satisfying constituent needs, developing a “digital mindset” with a focus on the future, and utilizing technology to make a difference in people’s everyday lives. The following focus areas guide the DTS portfolio of work:

Seamless Interaction
Make digital touchpoints simple, consistent and accessible across channels and departments. The outcome is a more intuitive end-to-end experience where people can complete transactions and get support faster, with clearer ownership and less rework behind the scenes.

Actionable Information
Strengthen how the County defines, governs, and shares data so that leaders and staff can quickly access trusted information and turn it into decisions and action. The outcome is a more transparent, AI-ready foundation with authoritative data that is easier to reuse and analyze, enabling faster improvements in planning, performance management, and service delivery.

Smart Resilience
Ensure that the County’s technology foundation is reliable, secure, and scalable, allowing essential services to continue with minimal disruption and to recover quickly when incidents occur. Ongoing review and assessment of the County’s technology infrastructure helps ensure it remains right-sized for network traffic, storage demands, and application needs.
