JOB OPPORTUNITY: Executive Director, Woodlawn/Pope-Leighey House (Full-Time), Alexandria, VA
DEADLINE: Open until filled
COMPENSATION: $140-$160K
The Woodlawn plantation and Pope-Leighey House sites are nestled in a quiet area of Alexandria, Virginia on the traditional lands of the Doeg, Manahoac, Susquehannock, Patawomeck, and Piscataway peoples, less than forty minutes' drive from the heart of Washington, D.C. Woodlawn, originally part of George Washington’s land holdings, was initially a traditional plantation with enslaved workers that later transformed with Quaker ownership into an experimental, racially integrated farming community decades before the Civil War.
Woodlawn and Pope-Leighey House are two sites in one that are owned and operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP). Woodlawn, a site shaped by slavery, became a house museum in 1949 and was purchased by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1954, making it the organization’s first site open to the public. In 1964, a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian home, the Pope-Leighey House, was moved to the property from its original location in nearby Falls Church, VA to prevent its demolition. The entire Woodlawn and Pope-Leighey House site includes 126 acres, 11 roofed structures, a collection of furnishings and decorative arts related to both residences and an active farming program established in partnership with Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture.
The mission of the site is to engage with the community to preserve history and care for nature at this former site of enslavement and preserve and interpret modernist architecture while promoting and inspiring innovation. The programs, events, and interpretation foster racial justice, promote sustainable practices, nurture wellbeing, and contribute to community repair.

CALL TO ARTISTS: Fluid Patterns: Water and Climate Change, East End Arts Council, Riverhead, New York
DEADLINE: Tuesday, September 30, 2025, 11:59 PM
We invite artists working in all mediums to submit work for Fluid Patterns, a group exhibition exploring water in the age of climate change.
This show examines water as both a vital resource and a force of disruption—through flood, drought, rising seas, and shifting weather.
We’re especially interested in how patterns—natural, visual, ephemeral or symbolic—emerge from water’s behavior and our relationship to it.
How do we as artists see, feel, or trace these patterns—and what do they reveal?
This national open call welcomes work of all media, including but not limited to painting, sculpture, photography, video, and digital art.
Artists may enter up to three original works new to the local public for selection.
Juried by artists Marta Baumiller and Rainer Gross.
