What is Project PEACE?

Arlington’s Project PEACE is a coordinated commitment to address domestic violence in our community.

With a unified vision and set of values, Arlington is examining and challenging itself across professions and disciplines, allowing public and private agencies to work together for the common good, and engaging the widest possible range of perspectives and skills for this important community-wide effort.

Project PEACE Background

  • Domestic violence crosses the bounds of culture and class. It has physical, emotional, economic and social implications for individuals, families, neighborhoods and communities. Effectively addressing the actual and potential consequences of domestic violence requires a thoughtful, intentional and inclusive approach.
  • In November of 2006, community and Arlington County leaders joined forces to create the Domestic Violence Leadership Roundtable.
  • The Leadership Roundtable was charged with spearheading the development of a coordinated community response (CCR) service delivery system to address domestic violence.
  • To develop the CCR, an Implementation Task Force was established. The result of the Task Force’s work is seen in Project PEACE: Partnering to End Abuse in the Community for Everyone. With this blueprint for addressing domestic violence in the community completed, the Task Force now focuses on implementation efforts in six key goal areas.

Current Work: Making Significant Improvements in Six Major Areas

  1. Changing attitudes and behaviors to prevent violence from happening.
  2. Strengthening the community’s ability to respond quickly and appropriately to domestic violence.
  3. Enhancing the justice system response to promote safety for victims and accountability for aggressors.
  4. Improving a wide range of services and supports for victims, families and aggressors to interrupt the cycle of violence.
  5. Enhancing access to services for a diverse community across age, ability, language, race and culture differences.
  6. Building an infrastructure to provide for clear communication and accountability of efforts.
