We are updating our Vision Zero Action Plan to cover the next five years on our path to ZERO transportation deaths or serious injuries by 2030.
The Vision Zero Action Plan outlines a set of actions that Arlington County and its partners will take to work toward the goal of achieving zero transportation-related deaths and serious injuries on our streets and trails by 2030. The first Action Plan, published in 2021, covered goals and strategies for the first five years of the program. View the Vision Zero progress reports page to learn about progress made toward the 2021 Vision Zero Action Plan.
Now that we are nearing the end of the five-year span of the County's first Action Plan, it’s time to reassess the program and outline our path to ZERO in the next five years. The Action Plan update is meant to help Arlington’s Vision Zero program grow and evolve.

External Stakeholders Meeting #1
Phase 1 Public Engagement
In October 2025, staff conducted the first round of public engagement to update the Arlington's Vision Zero 5-Year Action Plan. Throughout the month of October, we advertised an online/mail-in feedback form, conducted 13 pop up events, hosted an open house, and shared the feedback through flyers and lawn signs to reach community members from across Arlington. Through these efforts, we shared what we’ve learned about the factors that cause severe and fatal crashes in Arlington, and what tools have been most successful in addressing them since the first Action Plan was adopted in 2021. We asked community members what it will take to reach our goal of zero severe and fatal crashes on Arlington’s transportation network by 2030, along with questions about what they’ve observed over the past five years on our streets, trails and sidewalks.
We received input on these questions from over 1,200 community members: 319 online responses, 9 mailed responses and 905 in-person interactions. We are still reviewing all online and in-person comments and aggregating the feedback. We will publish a detailed feedback summary this winter in advance of our second public engagement phase in April 2026, which will gather input on a draft of the updated Action Plan.
