Final design was completed in late 2025. The project is currently in the procurement phase with construction anticipated to begin in the summer of 2026.

About the Project

Project Scope

This project will build a new sidewalk on the north side of 14th Street North between North Ohio Street and North McKinley Road. The project will also expand curbs at the corners of the intersection of 14th Street North and North McKinley Road to shorten crossing distances.

Project Goals

Install a sidewalk to provide safe access for people traveling on 14th Street North between North McKinley Road and completed improvements at the intersection with North Ohio Street

Provide shorter, safer crossing distances at the intersection of 14th Street North and North McKinley Road

Existing conditions include utility poles and streetlights on both sides of the street, as well as changes in topography on the north side of the street. There is currently on-street parking on both sides of the street.

Project Background

This location was nominated for improvements by Arlington County residents as part of the Neighborhood Complete Streets (NCS) program. It ranked highly for funding on the scored list of nominated streets, with points awarded due to lack of sidewalk and proximity to schools, transit and bike facilities. The Neighborhood Complete Streets Commission (NCSC) affirmed pursuance of a concept design and public engagement at its February 27, 2023 meeting and voted unanimously to recommend the project for approval at its June 26, 2023 Funding Hearing. The Arlington County Board approved the project at its July 2023 meeting. Design for the project started in early 2024 and is anticipated to be completed by fall of 2025.
