Arlington County Government offices and services are operating on modified schedules for the Christmas holiday on Thursday, Dec. 25, and Friday, Dec. 26, 2025.
The renovation and construction process for the Barcroft Apartments community is anticipated to be completed in 13 phases spanning several years.
Since acquiring the Barcroft property in 2021, Jair Lynch has taken a “residents-first” approach to planning the site. Jair Lynch has asked current Barcroft residents what they want in their renovated units and on the property. Plans for a future amenity center, in-unit laundry facilities, and other services and amenities stem from those conversations. Going forward, Jair Lynch and Arlington County will continue to engage with Barcroft residents and listen to their feedback.
Jair Lynch has agreed to move forward with an initial renovation project of 93 affordable units in the portion of the Barcroft property located south of George Mason Drive along South Four Mile Run Drive. The renovations will provide housing for persons with disabilities and families by yielding nine Permanent Supportive Housing units upon unit turnover and converting 18 two-bedroom units to 14 three-bedroom units and 4 four-bedroom units.
The County Board approved a use permit for this renovation phase in July 2023. The Board approved the financing terms for these renovations in December 2023. These renovations will begin while Arlington County staff and Jair Lynch continue to work on long-term planning and recommendations for Barcroft, including the land use analysis.
