About the Project
Priority Action #4, Action Step 1.2.5 of the County Board adopted Public Spaces Master Plan (PSMP) calls for an analysis of "athletic field utilization to improve data on the current use and assess future athletic field needs". The goal of this project is to develop a field availability framework to enable consistent evaluation of field utilization. This will be used in conjunction with the Level of Service recommendations (see 1.2.4.).The Public Spaces Master Plan - Implementation Advisory Committee (PSMP-IAC) is a County Manager appointed group that is charged with providing guidance on the implementation of the PSMP.
About the Process
- Nov. 2, 2023: The project team presented an update on the community engagement summary to the PSMP-IAC. Click to see the presentation.
- July 24 - Sept. 8, 2023: The project team launched an online engagement opportunity for participants to learn about the athletic field availability draft framework (video | presentation) and share their feedback on the draft, as well as a new approach to community time on fields. Community feedback is used to help inform final updates to the draft framework. Take a look at the engagement summary.
- Oct. 18, 2021: Staff presented a draft framework for field availability and utilization (presentation | recording).
- May 13, 2021: Staff shared the results of the first online engagement with the PSMP-IAC (presentation | recording).
- Jan. / Feb. 2021: The first online engagement provided an overview of the project and athletic field availability & utilization (video). The feedback opportunity asked for community input around drop-in use, start times and end times. To learn about what was said, check out this engagement summary and raw data.
- Feb. 10, 2020: Staff presented an outline of the first engagement to the PSMP-IAC. The committee got a chance to provide their feedback (presentation).
- Dec. 9, 2019: Staff introduced the project with an overview on Athletic Field Availability & Utilization in Arlington during a presentation to the PSMP-IAC. This presentation consisted of information related to important field scheduling terminology, current field allocation processes and planned opportunities for community engagement.
- Apr. 2019: The Public Spaces Master Plan (PSMP) was adopted in April 2019 and calls for the County to evaluate "athletic field utilization to improve data on the current use and assess future athletic field needs" in Priority Action #4, Action Step 1.2.5.
