Spout Run Stormwater Improvements

The Spout Run watershed(PDF, 25MB)  is one of the critical watersheds identified for stormwater capacity improvements. The watershed includes the Waverly Hills and Cherrydale Civic Associations, Woodstock Park, and other surrounding areas.

In some parts of Spout Run, historical development patterns resulted in a stormwater system that weaves between homes, lacks public easements, and has insufficient space for overland relief for larger storm events. These system constraints have made it difficult to identify infrastructure improvements to reduce flood risk.  The County is pur­chasing some properties on a voluntary basis to provide overland relief, expand the storm system capacity and reduce flood risk to the community.  The watershed-scale strategy in Spout Run may also include distributed detention and pipe expansion and tertiary infrastructure.

Engagement

Stormwater staff has met with the Waverly Hills and Cherrydale Civic Associations multiple times from Spring 2018 and continuing today.
