Inspections & Permits
Arlington County enforces the 2021 Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code and the Arlington County Fire Prevention Code to help ensure buildings and businesses maintain safe conditions for occupants and emergency responders.
The Office of the Fire Marshal conducts fire and life safety inspections, reviews permit applications, issues operational permits, and verifies compliance with applicable fire code requirements. These services help identify and correct hazards, support the proper maintenance of fire protection systems, and promote a safer community.
The Office of the Fire Marshal also issues permits for activities and operations regulated by the fire code. Permits help ensure fire and life safety requirements are met before work begins and throughout the duration of the approved activity.
