Refugee Cash and Medical Assistance

General Information

The Refugee Cash and Medical Assistance program provides financial and medical assistance to refugees/asylees in need. The program provides a monthly grant (check) and medical assistance to refugees in need for up to four months after lawful arrival into the U.S.

Eligibility

  • Refugee/asylee in the U.S. for four months or less
  • Must establish Virginia residency
  • Refugees with minor children must apply for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Interview is required

  • Completed Department of Social Services Application for Benefits
  • Verification of legal presence in the U.S.
  • Verification of residency
  • Verification of all income
  • Verification of resources
