I’ve received a parking ticket for a compliance issue (expired or no state inspection, expired or no state registration) what can I do?

If you received a ticket for a violation of Arlington County Code § 14.2-2.A.1-2 (expired or no state inspection; expired or no state registration) AND you demonstrate compliance with the law (i.e., fix the problem), the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, via RMC Parking Ticket Payment and Processing portal, will approve dismissal of the ticket. If your ticket is approved for dismissal, you will not have to pay a fine. If your ticket is NOT approved for dismissal, you will have the option of either paying the fine or you can request a hearing.

To demonstrate compliance with the law and have the ticket dismissed without paying a fine:

  • Find your ticket on the RMC Parking Ticket Payment and Processing Portal by entering your ticket number, or by searching for your ticket by your license plate number or VIN number.
  • Click on the words ‘Proof of Compliance’.
  • Enter in all personal information fields (i.e. Name, Address, Phone Number, Email, etc.) Note: the notice of the outcome of your proof of compliance submission will be sent to the email address entered on the form.
  • Upload proof that you have renewed either your registration or inspection (depending on the violation on your ticket) into the area of the online form titled ‘Support/Evidence’.
  • After clicking the ‘Provide Proof of Compliance Now’ button, you will receive a ‘Success’ notification that you have successfully submitted your appeal. You will be notified by email whether your ticket is approved for dismissed.
  • If your appeal is denied, you can pay the fine OR you must contact Passport Customer Service, 571-200-9782, to request a hearing date.

Can I view the RMC Parking Ticket Payment and Processing Portal in other languages?
