Department of Real Estate Assessments

All re-subdivisions and new RPC creation are currently being completed on a case-by-case basis. Starting on April 2nd, through April 20th, all resubdivisions and RPC creation will be on temporary freeze due to our year end close out process. All resubdivisions recorded after January 1st, 2026 are inactivated during this hold; they cannot be activated for settlement, permits or address requests. Mission

The Department of Real Estate Assessments is responsible for the annual appraisal for ad valorem taxation of all locally assessed real property in Arlington County. We achieve our mission to provide uniform assessments of real property for the equitable distribution of real estate taxes by:

  • Adhering to Virginia statutes, local ordinances, and best practices of appraisal and assessment administration
  • Providing transparent, public access to information and processes
  • Employing a competent, well-trained, professional staff; and-
  • Demanding the highest standard of ethical behavior of department employees.

Board of Equalization

The Board of Equalization conducts hearings on property assessment disputes. Acting on the basis of relevant evidence submitted by both property owner and the Department of Real Estate Assessments, it is their role to make a fair, impartial decision on all property assessment disputes appealed, between taxpayers and the Assessor. View BOE Information.
