Construction

Construction of Phase III is currently underway with completion anticipated for fall of 2017 (dependent on underground conditions).

About the Project

The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Phase III effort is a 26-mile fiber optic construction project connecting 103 traffic signals to the County’s central system. The new network will not only help maintain our existing traffic signals but will also give the County enormous capacity for future expansion as new technologies in ITS become available. The ITS fiber network will also provide the backbone for the ConnectArlington initiative to connect County facilities.

This project covers portions of the following major roadways (as well as other minor streets):

  • Lee Highway
  • Arlington Boulevard
  • Washington Boulevard
  • Glebe Road
  • North Carlin Springs
  • Four Mile Run
  • George Mason Drive
