Protecting the Chesapeake

Arlington has been a state leader in reducing nitrogen levels, with an overarching goal of supporting the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance, a statewide program to help restore the bay to health. A number of restoration projects and infrastructure improvements, and programs like street sweeping, have also been undertaken to improve the health of our waterways.

Conserving at Home

Conserving natural resources is an important way to protect the environment, while also saving energy and money. We continue to work to keep our waters clean, but reducing stormwater runoff and pollution also starts at home with you! 

Community Involvement

We work with many environmental partners and the Arlington community to educate and help residents protect our environment.

Volunteers help with waterway cleanups, restoration projects, tree planting activities and stream monitoring.
