Teen Network Board (TNB)

What is the Teen Network Board?

The Teen Network Board (TNB) is a teen advocacy group appointed by the County Board and School Board. It is made up of 50 high school and homeschooled students from diverse backgrounds across the County who serve as a voice for Arlington youth, families, and the broader community.

TNB members discuss important issues, make recommendations, and take action to improve the lives of teens in Arlington.

Youth ages 14–18 who live in Arlington County are eligible to apply.

The Teen Network Board meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month during the school year, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

We have four subcommittees which focus on improving the mental health and well-being of the community through drug and alcohol prevention, healthy relationship education and intimate partner violence awareness, peer to peer support and mentoring, and volunteer, internships, and community engagement. You can learn a bit more about each subcommittee below.

  • DAP (Drugs and Alcohol Prevention): Prevent substance and alcohol use as well as support mental health in the Arlington youth population.
  • HRT (Healthy Relationships Taskforce): Promote healthy and consensual relationship behaviors, educate, and advocate for the prevention of intimate partner and sexual violence. (Working with Arlington's Project PEACE)
  • P2P (Peer to Peer): Create programming and events offering peer support and mentorship for Arlington teens, including mental health support opportunities.
  • VICE (Volunteering, Internships, and Community Engagement): Connect Arlington teens with community service, intern, and volunteer opportunities.

Community Highlights

Meeting Vendors to Reduce Tobacco Use

25 youth, including TNB members and members of the Buckingham Youth Brigade, visited close to 60 vendors throughout Arlington county as part of the Counter Tools initiative. Counter Tools aims to reduce the detrimental impact of unhealthy substances, such as access to vapes, tobacco and alcohol, at consumers' primary point of exposure and access: the retail environment. The goal is to visit vape shops and tobacco vendors throughout the county to assess the tobacco products being sold, and provide vendor education to discourage the sale of these products to youth.
