Dog Licenses

Per Virginia Code § 3.2-6524 and § 3.2-6521Arlington residents with dogs over four months old must obtain a dog license and vaccinate their dog against rabies. Arlington County does require residents to license service dogs, but there is no licensing fee for service dogs.

If you no longer own a dog that had a registered County dog license, email our Customer Service team or call 703-228-4000.

As of July 1, 2019, new dog licenses are valid for the life of your pet and will not need to be renewed as long as you maintain your pet’s active rabies vaccination. The cost of this lifetime dog license is $30.00. Apply for a lifetime license by completing this application(PDF, 86KB) and submitting it by mail, in person, or online.
