Free Paper Shredding and Inert Material Drop-Off

Next date: Saturday, May 02, 2026 | 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM

• Paper shredding is held the first Saturday of the month unless that is a three-day holiday weekend; if a holiday weekend, shredding shifts to the next Saturday.
• As of July 2024, free monthly paper shredding hours are 8 a.m. to noon.
• For Arlington County, Virginia residents only (sorry, businesses are not allowed).
• Limit of two boxes (no larger than 18 in. x 11 in. x 10 in.), or two paper bags per customer.
• Acceptable: paper (including staples, paper clips), checks/checkbooks.
• Unacceptable: magazines, catalogs, credit cards, three-ring binders or phone book-sized material.
• Already shredded paper accepted; do not place shredded paper in blue recycling carts as it is too unwieldy for regular sorting.
• Residents are no longer able to view the shredding process and give tacit approval by entering the drive-thru routing.

• To help us be more efficient with paper shredding, manage your paper waste at home by opting out of receiving junk mail and tossing documents withoutpersonally identifiable information (PII) in the recycling cart for weekly curbside collection. Learn more about PII on this FAQ page from the Department of Defense.

Inert materials include:

• Asphalt
• Ceramic tile
• Concrete
• Earth
• Masonry block
• Rock
• Sand

Only a small pickup truck load or 3 cubic yards of material can be accepted. Brush material is not accepted in the Inert Material Drop-Off Program.
