Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is a rare and deadly disease. The viruses that cause EVD are found mainly in countries located in central and west Africa. EVD most often affects people and nonhuman primates, such as monkeys, chimpanzees, and gorillas.

Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle pain
  • Joint pain
  • Abdominal pain
  • Rash
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Unexplained bleeding

Symptoms may appear 2 to 21 days after contact with the virus, with an average of 8 to 10 days.

A person cannot spread EVD if they do not have symptoms.
