Each year, the Arlington Addiction Recovery Initiative (AARI) hosts a candlelight vigil in observance of International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD)—a global day of remembrance for lives lost to overdoses. For the past three years, the Arlington community has come together to honor those we've lost, support those who grieve, and raise awareness about the ongoing impact of substance use.

The evening features reflections from County Board members and leaders from the Department of Human Services. Attendees are invited to connect with storytellers who courageously share their personal journeys with loss, recovery, and hope. The vigil culminates in a moving ceremony where names of loved ones are read aloud, followed by the gentle glow of candlelight in their memory.

This is more than an event—it’s a moment of unity, healing, and collective resolve.
