JOSLYN & THE SWEET COMPRESSION OPENS 2024 SEASON AT ARLINGTON’S HIDDEN-GEM!
“Magical… gives everybody the joy!” is how Billboard magazine describes JOSLYN & THE SWEET COMPRESSION the fast-rising funk-soul sensations who kick off the Free LUBBER RUN AMPHITHEATER Summer Concert Series, at 8:00 pm on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The Series runs June 8 through August 2, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 11:00 a.m. with special presentation times as listed. Lubber Run Amphitheater is located at North Columbus and 2nd St. North, Arlington, Virginia.
The summer schedule continues the following weekend with Munit Mesfin (Fri., Jun 14), nationally-known DC Latin-jazz ensemble Rumba Club (Sat., Jun 15), and the Arlington Children’s Chorus (Sun., Jun 16, 11am), continuing our tradition of Sunday morning performances for the whole family! The schedule includes something for everyone. Thrill to the majestic Arlington Philharmonic (Jun 23). Roots rocker Lauren Calve returns on (June 28). Enjoy one of the top regional jazz ensembles, Veronneau (July 20). The interactive African-percussion ensemble Soul in Motion (June 30) is the first of three special Sunday morning family shows curated and co-presented with Arlington Public Library (performances noted by an asterisk ‘*’).
Since the construction of the first permanent stage in 1969, generations of Arlingtonians have enjoyed free summer cultural events at the sylvan venue nestled two blocks off Route 50, ranging from Encore Stage & Studio to bands like Eddie from Ohio, superstar Ritchie Havens and Grammy-nominee Raul Midón. Bring a picnic, some friends and enjoy the arts at Lubber Run Amphitheater!
"A refreshing take on the neo-soul / funk sound, unbound by modern clichés." - Glide Magazine
Joslyn & The Sweet Compression are bona fide, and they want the world to know it. A rising force out of Lexington, Kentucky, the band led by Joslyn Hampton come out swinging on their sophomore album, ready to uplift and inspire through their singular and stirring soul-funk sound. 2019’s critically acclaimed debut album made them a favorite headliner at regional clubs and music festivals. After a grueling and relentless tour schedule – one that saw them supporting Tower of Power at New York’s Sony Hall and Tyler Childers at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre – the band are back with Bona Fide, a sonically and emotionally charged record that captures their breathtaking live energy as well as their humanity. Released August 25, 2023, Bona Fide is a resounding testament to Joslyn & The Sweet Compression’s unparalleled talents, as well as an homage to the band’s co-founder (and Joslyn Hampton’s stepfather), Marty Charters, who passed away in 2022.
