The YFPI program focuses on preventing fire misuse and teaches fire survival skills. The program intends to prevent recidivism and improve decision-making.

Youth in Arlington County who misuse fire, have an unique interest in fire or explosives, or are involved in false fire alarms can participate in the Youth Firesetting Prevention and Intervention (YFPI) program at no cost. Referrals may come from parents, schools, or mental health professionals. Participation can be voluntary or court mandated, however full participation is required to complete the program.

Free Fire Safety Education

The program includes two or three after-school or weekend sessions with YFPI Specialists. Our YFPI Specialists are trained at the National Fire Academy and are passionate about supporting our community’s youth. The first day, specialists conduct a screening to determine the cause of the behavior and referrals indicated, if any. Afterwards, participants receive education on fire science, fire safety, peer pressure, and consequences, to include homework assignments.
