Program Description

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, also known as Farm Market Fresh, helps older adults access fresh, seasonal, and locally grown foods. It also supports local farmers and farmers markets in Virginia. The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is a federally supported program funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, administered at a state level by the Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), and distributed locally by the Arlington Area Agency on Aging (AAA).

The program runs from June 1 to November 30 annually. Approved participants who meet the eligibility criteria receive $50 on a pre-loaded benefit card or via the Healthy Together app on their smart phone.

Applications are accepted for a limited time. Applicants must submit a new application each year.

Eligibility Requirements

You may be eligible to participate if you meet the following requirements.

  • You are an Arlington resident.
  • You are 60 years of age and older.
  • You meet monthly income requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will I be notified?

If you have been approved, you will receive an email and a letter in the mail from the Arlington Agency on Aging.

You can also opt-in to receive text/email updates on the Healthy Together app or by logging into your Healthy Together account.

What is the Healthy Together app?

Healthy Together is a public health technology company that operates a smartphone-based app. Through this app, community members can apply for and (if approved) shop with their Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program benefit.

How do I use my card?

Participating farmers will scan the QR code either on your card or in your Healthy Together app at the time of purchase. The balance will be automatically deducted.

Remember – if the farmer asks for your pin code, it's your birth year!

How do I check my balance?

You can ask the farmer at the time of purchase for a balance on your account.

Can I use my benefit card from last year?

Yes, if you received your benefit card last year, funds will be reloaded on that card.

New cards can be issued upon request in the application process.

What happens if I lose my card?

If you lose your card, don’t worry! Email us at arlaaa@arlingtonva.us and we will issue you a new card.
