Nursing Homes

About Nursing Homes and Rehabilitative Centers

A nursing home is a healthcare setting which provides 24 hour nursing care for individuals needing skilled Medicare services,  acute, or long term care treatment. Nursing homes are regulated by the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Licensure and Certification.

Medicaid will pay for this level of care in a facility where a Medicaid-approved bed is available. Medicare pays for this level of care only on a short-term basis under certain circumstances. Nursing homes may also be paid for with private insurance or private funds.
