Guidance on Appealing a Compliance Ticket Online

As part of the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office response to the outbreak of COVID-19, customers seeking to have their tickets waived for compliance issues are encouraged to submit appeals online.

Contesting a parking ticket:

Per Arlington County Code §14.2-95, your intent to contest a citation must be submitted within 30 days from the date the citation was issued. If you demonstrate compliance with the law (i.e., fix the problem), the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office may dismiss the charge, and you will not have to pay a fine. Compliance issues are:

  • Expired or no state inspection
  • Expired or no state registration

Please email your compliance documentation to cwa_info@arlingtonva.us.

In the subject line, please write: TICKET COMPLIANCE

Your email should include the full name and address of the ticket recipient and the date the ticket was received.

In order to have the ticket waived, you must provide proof of compliance by sending a scanned copy or picture of the relevant compliance documents:

(PLEASE ONLY SEND RELEVANT DOCUMENTATION BASED ON THE INFRACTION)

  • Current vehicle registration (matching the vehicle listed on the ticket/summons
  • Current Safety inspection certification (matching the vehicle listed on the ticket/summons)
  • Copy of current, valid Driving License
  • Photo of vehicle’s front and back affixed License Plates

Contesting a moving violation:

If you have received a Ticket or a Court Summons regarding a traffic violation or infraction for one of the following:

Step 1.No or expired DMV registration

Step 2.No or expired VA safety inspection

Step 3.Defective Equipment

Step 4.No or expired Driving License

Step 5.No License Plate on Vehicle

Step 6.Improper window tint

Step 7.No Display of Handicap Placard

AND the ticket was not issued more than 90-days before today’s date, or the Summons does not reflect a past Court Date, you may be able to have the ticket waived by demonstrating compliance and providing a copy of your valid identification.

You may email the documentation to: CWA_Info@arlingtonVA.us

In the subject line, please write: TICKET COMPLIANCE

Your email should include the full name and address of the ticket recipient and the date the ticket was received.

In order to have the ticket waived, the ticket must be within the 90-day payment window and must be submitted prior to the assigned court date. You must provide proof of compliance by sending a scanned copy or picture of the relevant compliance documents:
