Kate Ange
Acting Director of Arlington Economic Development (AED)
Kate Ange joined AED as deputy director in September 2023. Since then she has focused on the development and implementation of a new strategic plan and strengthening external partnerships to achieve positive economic outcomes. She currently serves as the liaison to all three of the county’s BIDs, works closely with the Economic Development Commission and oversees AED’s Business Investment Group, the Arlington Convention and Visitor Service, BizLaunch and the Communications team. Kate has also contributed to the Commercial Market Resiliency Initiative (CMRI) and advancing efforts to form a Tourism Improvement District (TID) for the county.
Before joining the county, Kate spent more than 27 years working with local and state governments, regional planning organizations, and federal agencies on the advancement of community development efforts. Trained as a city planner, she most recently served as President of Renaissance Planning, a small niche consulting firm that focuses on holistic planning solutions in land use, economic development, urban design, and transportation to create cities that work. After spending years on the road helping communities nationwide, Kate’s shift to the public sector comes with a renewed interest to stay local and make a positive community impact in her own backyard.
Kate holds a Master of Planning in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia, and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Rollins College. She has been an Arlington resident since 2009 and is the proud mom of a senior in college.
