Director, Department of Parks and Recreation

Jane Rudolph has served as Director of Arlington County's Department of Parks and Recreation since 2013. As a member of Arlington County's Executive Leadership Team, she leads the strategic direction and operations of the department, overseeing more than 300 full-time employees and 500 seasonal and temporary staff, a $64 million annual operating budget, and a 10-year capital improvement program exceeding $300 million.  

Under Jane's leadership, Arlington's Department of Parks and Recreation earned the 2025 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Parks and Recreation Management and has received numerous awards from the Virginia Recreation and Park Society. She has guided transformative capital investments, including the Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center, while advancing the planning, design, and construction of parks, trails, athletic facilities, and natural resource improvements throughout Arlington. Jane has also championed community engagement, innovative partnerships, and strategic planning that have strengthened parks and recreation services and enhanced quality of life for Arlington's diverse community. 

Prior to joining Arlington County, Jane worked for the City of New York for over 12 years both in the Mayor’s Office and at the Department of Parks & Recreation where she served as the Chief of Staff, helping oversee the nation's largest urban parks system. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Vassar College and a Master of Public Administration from New York University's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
