Aaron Miller
Director of the Department of Public Safety Communications and Emergency Management
Aaron Miller became the Director of the Department of Public Safety Communications and Emergency Management in March of 2018. Director Miller previously was Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness for the City of New Orleans, Louisiana. In that role, he was responsible for administration and oversight of the city’s homeland security enterprise. This included development of preparedness policy, plans and initiatives, and leading the city’s public safety unified command group through high-profile special events, critical incidents and major disasters. During his five-year tenure, Mr. Miller oversaw the establishment of New Orleans’ first Real-Time Crime Center, development of a comprehensive public safety plan to secure the iconic French Quarter, and an expansion of the NOLA Ready community preparedness program.
Director Miller’s previous experience includes emergency medical services, collegiate emergency response and serving on several incident management teams. Director Miller is currently completing his dissertation for a Doctorate in Public Health from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He holds a Master of Public Health and a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University.
He and his wife Sarah will reside in Arlington along with their dog, Maddy, and cat, Julius.
