Arts Commission Membership

The Arlington Commission for the Arts is a 15-member volunteer citizen’s group that is appointed by the County Board to advise them about arts and cultural matters in the community. Working closely with Arlington Cultural Affairs, a division of Arlington Economic Development, the Commission provides leadership for the continuing growth and development of the arts and cultural life of the County, administers the distribution of County arts resources to arts organizations and artists through its Arts Grants Program, assists in developing cultural policy, and promotes the arts in Arlington.

Arts Commission members come from a variety of backgrounds with diverse experiences, interests and talents, but are united in their appreciation for both Arlington and the arts. Arts Commission members are active community volunteers with responsibilities that include:

  • Frequent attendance at arts events in Arlington
  • Serving as a liaison to several supported arts groups
  • Attending and evaluating arts programs and events showcasing supported arts groups and artists
  • Advocating for the arts in Arlington
  • Serving on at least one of the three standing committees: Public Art, Facilities and Capacity Building or Communications and Outreach
  • Attending the scheduled monthly Arts Commission meetings
