REPORTS
ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2026-01120184, 3500 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 6:14 p.m. on January 12, police were dispatched to the report of a dispute. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect and female victim, who are known to each other, were involved in a verbal dispute during which the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim, stole her phone and broke it before fleeing the scene on foot. Later that evening, the suspect returned to the scene. A responding officer attempted to take the suspect into custody, during which he was non-compliant and assaulted the officer. With the assistance of additional responding officers, the suspect was taken into custody. During a search incident to arrest, brass knuckles were recovered. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at an area hospital. Jalani Gatlin, 24, of Alexandria, Va., was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery on Law Enforcement, Assault and Battery, Robbery, Trespassing, Destruction of Property, Possession of Blackjacks and Obstruction of Justice. He was held without bond.
ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2026-01120197, N. Lexington Street at Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 7:25 p.m. on January 12, police were dispatched to the report of an assault. Upon arrival, it was determined the female victim was in the area when the female suspect approached the victim and allegedly spat on her before fleeing the scene on foot. A lookout was broadcast, and responding officers located an individual matching the description of the suspect near the scene and took her into custody. While in custody, the suspect spat on two officers. Katherine Claffey, 30, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery on Law Enforcement (x2) and Assault and Battery.
UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2026-01120090, 4300 block of N. Carlin Springs Road. At approximately 11:08 a.m. on January 12, police were dispatched to the report of a burglary. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect allegedly forced entry into a vacant apartment, causing property damage, and fled the scene prior to police arrival. A lookout was broadcast, and responding officers conducted a canvass of the area for the suspect yielding negative results. Later that evening, the suspect returned to the apartment and responding officers took him into custody. Shaka Barnes, 45, of No Fixed Address, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Entry and Destruction of Property.
