REPORTS
ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2026-08230020, Wilson Boulevard at N. Fillmore Street. At approximately 2:02 a.m. on August 23, an officer working the nightlife detail observed individuals yelling at each other in the roadway. The officer approached and ordered the group to get out of the street. The male suspect then approached a male subject and the officer intervened and gave him commands to step away. The suspect disregarded the commands and struck the officer before running from the scene. A lookout was broadcast and responding officers located the suspect at Clarendon Boulevard and N. Garfield Street and took him into custody. No injuries were reported. Fernando Vasquez, 35, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Assault on Police and Obstruction of Justice.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2026-08240005, 15th Street N. at N. Courthouse Road. At approximately 12:29 a.m. on August 24, police were dispatched to the report of an assault. Upon arrival, it was determined the male victim was outside when the male suspect approached him and asked for money. The victim gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect allegedly demanded additional money. The suspect then attempted to steal the victim’s bag during which he pulled the strap at the victim's neck, making it difficult for the victim to breathe. A responding officer observed the suspect assaulting the victim, gave commands and took him into custody. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and later self-reported to the hospital. Zachary Thomas, 37, of No Fixed Address was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding, Attempted Robbery and Strangulation. He was held without bond.
