REPORTS
ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2026-04170172/2026-04180002, 1800 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 6:12 p.m. on April 17, police were dispatched to the report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect made entry into a secured residential building and entered the elevator. While in the elevator, the suspect allegedly shoved an adult victim out of the elevator and subsequently forced entry into a secured, unoccupied apartment, causing property damage. The victim did not report any injuries. When responding officers arrived, they located the male suspect inside the residence. While attempting to take the suspect into custody, he was noncompliant and assaulted six officers and one police K9. Following the deployment of a Taser and a police K9, the suspect was subsequently taken into custody. One officer was transported to an area hospital out of an abundance of caution and a second officer self-reported to an area hospital with minor injuries. All over officers sustained minor injuries and were treated by medics at the scene. The suspect was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Upon his release, Oleh Mashkin, 34, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with Assault on Police (x6), Injuring a Police Animal, Assault and Battery, Obstruction of Justice, Destruction of Property (x2) and Burglary. He was held without bond.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING (Late), 2026-04180044, 1800 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 7:09 a.m. on April 18, police were dispatched to the late report of trouble unknown. It was determined that at approximately 4:00 a.m. the male suspect and male victim, who are known to each other, were inside the victim’s residence when the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and stole cash before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital prior to police arrival. The suspect returned to the scene as responding officers were conducting their investigation and they took him into custody. Altankhuyag Altangerel, 35, of Arlington, Va., was arrested, and charged with Malicious Wounding and Robbery. He was held without bond.
INDECENT EXPOSURE (late), 2026-04180204, 4200 block of Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 10:02 p.m. on April 18, police were dispatched to the report of trespassing. It was determined that at approximately 5:00 p.m., the male suspect was inside the business and allegedly exposed himself. Security officers told the suspect to leave the premises and expressed that he was no longer allowed entry to the business. Around 9:50 p.m., the suspect returned to the business and police were notified. Responding officers located the suspect at the scene and took him into custody. Michael Bowels, 66, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with Indecent Exposure and Trespassing. He was held without bond.
ROBBERY, 2026-04170160, 5500 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 5:38 p.m. on April 17, police were dispatched to the report of a larceny. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect entered the business and engaged an employee in conversation about purchasing merchandise. The suspect subsequently collected the merchandise and exited the store without payment. When confronted by an employee outside of the business, the suspect attempted to strike the employee and ultimately fled the scene prior to police arrival. No injuries were reported. A lookout was broadcast, and responding officers conducted a canvass of the area for the suspect yielding negative results. The suspect is described as a slim, Hispanic male with black hair, wearing a black shirt and black pants. The investigation is ongoing.
ROBBERY, 2026-04170217, 900 block of Army Navy Drive. At approximately 9:22 p.m. on April 17, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect was running in an alley when he encountered the victim throwing out a trash bag. The suspect shoved the victim, stole the trash bag and fled the scene. No injuries were reported. A lookout was broadcast, and responding officers conducted a canvass of the area for the suspect yielding negative results. The suspect is described as a Black male, wearing a gray T-shirt, a black baseball hat and black pants. The investigation is ongoing.
UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2026-04190159, 5200 block of 36th Street N. At approximately 7:49 p.m. on April 19, police were dispatched to Discovery Elementary School for the report of an alarm. Upon arrival, it was determined two juvenile male subjects made entry into the school before subsequently fleeing the scene. No items were reported damaged or stolen. Subject One is described as a White juvenile male wearing a gray t-shirt and black sweatpants. Subject Two is described as a White juvenile male wearing black shorts. The investigation is ongoing.
BURGLARY (late), 2026-04170107, 300 block of 10th Street S. At approximately 1:06 p.m. on April 17, police were dispatched to the late report of a burglary. It was determined that the victim visited their secured storage unit for the first time since early last year and discovered that all items inside the unit were missing. The investigation into the circumstances of this incident is ongoing.
BRANDISHING (late), 2026-04180152, 5000 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 6:24 p.m. on April 18, police were dispatched to the late report of a suspicious person. It was determined that at approximately 1:30 p.m. the male victim was outside a business when the male suspect approached him, made threatening statements and displayed what appeared to be a firearm. The victim ran away from the suspect into the business, and the suspect subsequently fled the scene. The suspect is described as a slim-build Hispanic male, approximately 5’3” tall, approximately 120 pounds, wearing a red shirt, black pants and a black durag. The investigation is ongoing.
