REPORTS
UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2025-07300027/2025-07300039, 1500 block of 12th Street S./ 1500 block of 11th Street S. At approximately 6:35 a.m. on July 30, police were dispatched to the report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect allegedly broke windows of five different homes in the area and subsequently made entry into three of them. Responding officers established a perimeter and located the suspect inside an unoccupied residence, issued commands and took him into custody. The suspect sustained minor injuries consistent with breaking glass and was transported to an area hospital. No items were reported stolen. During the course of the investigation, the suspect provided false personal identification information to officers. Richard Mecham, 31, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Unlawful Entry (x3), Destruction of Property (x5) and Giving False Identity to Law Enforcement.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2025-07300106, 3200 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 1:06 p.m. on July 30, police were dispatched to the report of an assault. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect and male victim became involved in a verbal dispute outside of a business when the suspect struck the victim before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The suspect is described as a thin-build Black male with dreadlocks and a mustache, approximately 5’8”, wearing a gray shirt and black shorts. The investigation is ongoing.
