Arlington, VA – Arlington County Government invites members of the public and media to attend the 4th Annual International Overdose Awareness Candlelight Vigil at Shirlington Library Plaza on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, at 7 p.m.

The Arlington Addiction Recovery Initiative (AARI) organizes a candlelight vigil as part of International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), a global campaign that brings people together to take action on overdose. For the past seven years, Arlington has honored those lost to overdose, supported those who grieve, and raised awareness about the ongoing impact of substance use.

Attendees are invited to connect with storytellers who share their personal journeys with loss, recovery, and hope. The vigil culminates in a ceremony where names of loved ones are read aloud, followed by the glow of candlelight in their memory.
