Arlington is participating in and supporting the regional effort to collect blankets to help Syrian refugees.
Over the past two years, with the generous support of many citizens and businesses, the Northern Virginia community collected more than 40,000 blankets to help Syrian refugees in Turkey who fled their homes due to the violence in their country.
Since that time matters have only grown worse with more than two million Syrian refugees living in Turkey alone; many do not live in refugee camps. With further unrest in Iraq, the number of refugees entering into Turkey is swelling.
To build on the success of last year’s effort, the National Capital Region is again undertaking a drive to collect new/gently used blankets and winter coats — to help those families who left their homes with only what they could carry on their back.
