About the Project

This project added a second street-level elevator to the west side of South Hayes Street at 12^th Street South, near the existing escalator. The new elevator will increase accessibility to the Metro station from the west side of the intersection.

Project Goals

• Improve accessibility from street level to mezzanine
• Provide additional point of access and remove need to cross six lanes of traffic to use east elevator
  
  

Project Background

In 2010 the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) completed a feasibility study of adding an elevator to integrate with planed streetscape enhancements in the vicinity.
