About the Project

The project will deliver a protected bike lane on the east side of North Lynn Street between Fairfax Drive and Wilson Boulevard, and a sidewalk-level bike lane between Wilson Boulevard and Eastbound Langston Boulevard.

Project Background

Planning Guidance

Master Transportation Plan

Bicycle Element: this project seeks to achieve goals set forth in the Bicycle Element of the County’s Master Transportation Plan, including providing an environment in which people of all ages and abilities can get places by bicycle safely and comfortably.

Rosslyn Sector Plan

Adopted by the County Board on July 23, 2015, the Rosslyn Sector Plan set forth a vision to transform Rosslyn into a more walkable, dynamic, live-work-shop-play urban center and vibrant gateway to Arlington.

Core of Rosslyn Transportation Study

Completed in 2019, the Core of Rosslyn Transportation Study assessed the feasibility and potential impacts of the changes proposed in the Rosslyn Sector Plan to the Rosslyn transportation network.

Vision Zero

Vision Zero policies call on County staff and the Arlington community to take a proactive approach to safety in order to eliminate severe and fatal crashes from our transportation network by 2030.
High Injury Network: N Lynn St is part of Arlington County’s High Injury Network (2023). These corridors experience high concentrations of critical crashes compared to other corridors in Arlington.

Lynn Street Resurfacing Project - Summer 2024

As part of Arlington County’s routine road maintenance program, a protected bike lane was installed between Wilson Boulevard and 19th Street N using paint, signage, and flexible bollards within the existing curb space.

Building on this initial effort, the Lynn Street Bike Lane Improvement project seeks to formalize and enhance the corridor by constructing more permanent infrastructure, based on existing plan guidance, data, and community feedback.

About the Process

This project anticipates having its first community engagement in winter/spring 2026. Additional details will be posted ahead of time.

Funding

The project is funded through local commercial and industrial tax revenues dedicated to transportation and a grant from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA).
