In the Spring of 2026,County staff finalized a traffic analysis within the project area. This analysis will help inform the final conceptual plan for the project, as it provides necessary information regarding lane configurations and widths along the bridge. Planning and Preliminary Design efforts for the project will begin in Fiscal Year 2027.
This project incorporates multimodal improvements along North Meade Street from Dark Star Park to Marshall Drive, including the reconstruction and realignment of the intersection of North Meade Street at the US-50/Arlington Blvd ramps, as described in the Core of Rosslyn Plan. Currently, the project does not include reconstruction or maintenance to the limits of the bridge over US-50, which is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
A study completed in January 2011 assessed safety, accessibility and functionality improvements for the Meade Street Bridge. Three different concept alternatives were designed as part of the study before a final preferred concept plan was developed in early 2012.
In 2015 the County Board adopted a Rosslyn Sector Plan that included a multimodal transportation vision set forth by the community and proposed modifications to the final preferred concept. In 2017 the County’s Transportation Division, in partnership with the Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID), began the Core of Rosslyn Transportation Study to assess the feasibility and potential impacts through 2030, of the proposed Sector Plan changes to the Rosslyn transportation network. Implementation of the Core of Rosslyn Transportation Study began in 2020.
The design alternative study for the Meade Street Bridge was presented on June 23, 2011.
Design alternatives were shared on March 22, 2011.
An open forum about planning and design was held on January 10, 2011.
The project is funded through local funding sources in the County’s Capital Improvement Plan.
