This project rebuilt 18th Street South between South Fern and Eads Streets to expand the existing South Hayes Street protected bike lane to the east, helping to improve the bicycle network connection between the Pentagon City and Crystal City neighborhoods.

    Project Goals

    • Add a protected bike lane on the east side of 18th Street South
    • Remove the slip lane at the intersection with South Fern Street
    • Reduce pedestrian crossing distances
    • Add stormwater retention and replace a water main

    Project Background

Transportation improvements along 18th Street South are identified in the Crystal City Sector Plan.

    Public Process

On Nov. 13, 2019, County staff presented to the Aurora Highland Civic Association on transportation improvements in the Crystal City and Pentagon City area, highlighting the 18th Street South project.
