The project team is completing the final design for the next phase of improvements to Jennie Dean Park. Over the coming months, the team will be preparing permit applications and coordinating with partner agencies to move the project toward construction.
This second phase of the redevelopment of Jennie Dean Park will begin with the demolition of the existing WETA studio building, the recently purchased property at 3520 S. Four Mile Run Drive, associated parking, and a portion of 27th Street South. After demolition, staff will incorporate these spaces into the park and construct the phase 2 amenities as envisioned in the Four Mile Run Valley Park Master Plan. These new amenities include additional casual use space (e.g. grass, pathways, trees, plantings, picnic areas etc.) a lighted basketball court and conversion of the existing basketball court into a second tennis court.
Project Goals:
The following project goals are based on the vision from the County Board adopted Four Mile Run Valley Park Master Plan:
In May 2022, Arlington County reopened the newly renovated Jennie Dean Park, an integral part of the Green Valley community for more than 75 years. Building upon its history and the community’s love of sports and arts, the park has been transformed into an exciting place designed to celebrate the area’s past and cultural heritage, while increasing access to recreation and nature. The Jennie Dean Phase 2 project will incorporate two newly acquired properties into the park and add amenities that were envisioned in the Four Mile Run Valley Park Master Plan.
