August 2022 - The second engagement closed in August 2022.There were preferred elements between both concepts. In concept #1 respondents liked the number of courts, practice courts, and layout. In concept 2 the conservation/preservation of trees, shade, and layout were expressed as preferences. Between the two designs, concept 2 was the overall preferred option. That said, the project team is incorporating community input from both designs to create a final draft that will be ready for review in early 2023.

June 2022 - After reviewing comments and speaking with stakeholders in the community, we prepared two conceptual designs for the new Upper Bluemont Tennis Facility. We need your help! Please watch this video outlining the two designs for Upper Bluemont and view flyover videos of design concept 1 and design concept 2 for Upper Bluemont Park. We collected feedback until Aug. 1. Engagement is closed and we will be sharing what we learned in the coming weeks.

From May 30 - June 20, 2024, staff solicited feedback from the community on an updated final concept design for Upper Bluemont Park. Here you can find a summary of the community's feedback, as well as the raw comments.

Sept. 2026 Update:

• Tennis court light poles removed and asphalt milling complete.
• Underground stormwater utilities installation in progress.
• Restroom building materials received and on site. Foundation work and underground utilities for the building are in progress.
• Light pole foundation and electrical conduit installation in progress.
• Sanitary sewer line and waterline installed on site and on N Manchester Street. N Manchester asphalting and striping completed by DES.
• Installation of retaining walls in progress.
• Site grading is in progress.

Key Project Details and Impacts: 

During construction the tennis courts, parking lot, restroom/picnic shelter, and a small section of the Four Mile Run Trail will be fenced off and closed to the public. Four Mile Run Trail users can use the adjacent W&OD Trail to avoid the small, closed trail segment before returning to Four Mile Run Trail. See the map at the bottom of this webpage for detour information.

Other key features at Bluemont Park, including the baseball diamond, soccer field, and playground, will remain open to the public. When using these facilities we recommend parking on N Manchester St, at the southern parking lot near the park's playground, or appropriate street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. Please do not park at Ashlawn Elementary School during school hours.
