2020 14th Street N. , Arlington, VA 22201
The first phase of the project began in January 2026 and is focused on work within the building’s interior. Interior demolition is expected to start in July/August and continue through the fall. While this work is contained to the building's interior, neighbors might see an increase in work vehicles, a dumpster and trash chute, and construction signage in the area.
Arlington County is in the beginning stages of enhancing capacity at its Homeless Services Center (HSC), which is currently located on the second and third floors of the 2020 14th Street N. building.
The HSC will be expanded to the fourth floor, increasing year-round capacity from 55 beds to 67 beds, and providing more suitable space for the 36 hypothermia beds currently operated between November and March. Next Steps Older Adults Transitional Housing (NSOATH) will also be added to the fifth floor, with space for up to 15 older adults.
The existing HSC will remain fully operational during this time.
This project was included in the FY25-34 Capital Improvement Plan as part of the Courthouse Complex Renovations & Infrastructure project. It provides a total of $30M for the design (FY25 – FY26) and renovation (FY27 – FY28) of two of the four unoccupied floors in 2020 14th Street N for hypothermia overflow and the HSC.
