About the Renovation Project

The County owns a 3,284 square foot detached one-level building, located on a 15,828 square foot parcel at 1915 N. Uhle St. For many years, this facility has been used for daycare services for children of Arlington County employees. It has not been renovated since 1990 and needed an array of repairs.

On Dec. 17, 2022, the County Board approved a $1.1 million contract with Landivar & Associates for an interior renovation, with limited exterior improvements for ADA compliance. Work included renovations of the children’s rooms, teachers’ areas, restrooms, and the kitchenette; window replacement; HVAC system upgrades; and overall accessibility upgrades. In spring 2025, the fence was replaced, and several new Honey Locus trees were planted.

On Jan. 21, 2023, the County Board approved a deed of lease with the national, non-profit child-care provider Easter Seals to operate the facility after construction was completed. In May 2024, Easter Seals withdrew from its lease. The County began searching for a new operator in summer 2024 and is currently evaluating proposals for a new operator. When the facility reopens, enrollment preference will be given to the children of County staff.
