The process to create a new introductory chapter for the Comprehensive Plan will involve a County-wide conversation about where we have been, where we are now, and where we want to be in 25 years. Because every Arlingtonian should have a say in how the County evolves, the Comprehensive Plan Update will be developed with extensive community input.
Support for Equitable Engagement
The Comprehensive Plan Update project will offer a broad, inclusive, and equitable public engagement process.
- In spring 2025, the planning team held a series of focus group meetings in partnership with community organizations to ensure that all community voices, especially those from historically underrepresented or marginalized communities, are included in the planning process.
- Focus groups were planned in accordance with Arlington's Equitable Engagement Guide, which offers guidance on ways to reduce or remove barriers for participating in public engagement efforts that inform our policies, programs, projects, and services.
- The focus groups are one part of a comprehensive strategy for meaningful engagement with people across the County on the Comprehensive Plan Update project.
- In fall 2025, the planning team is hosting several in-person and virtual community meetings and pop-up events across Arlington to ensure broad access to engagement opportunities.
