Dog Licenses

If you’re an Arlington resident and your dog is at least six months old, you must license your dog, per the Arlington County Code. Also, you must vaccinate any dog older than four months against rabies, per Virginia Code § 3.2-6521. The County doesn’t require residents to license service dogs.

If you no longer own a dog that had a registered County dog license, email the Treasurer’s Office or call 703-228-3090.

As of July 1, 2019:  Lifetime Dog Licenses!

As of July 1, 2019, new and renewed dog licenses will be valid for the life of your pet, and will not need to be renewed as long as you maintain your pet’s active rabies vaccination.  The cost of a lifetime dog license is $30.00.   Apply for a lifetime license by completing this application and submitting it by mail, in person, or online (renewals only).  If you already have a 1-year or a 3-year license for your dog, it will remain valid until its expiration date, after which  you can obtain a lifetime license.
