Charging at the County's EV Charging Stations

About County-supplied Charging Stations:

  • Charging Price: $0.1746/kilowatt-hour 
  • Dwell Fee: $3/hour, not exceeding $25
  • Charging parking spots are for EVs only. Exception: The first two charging spaces closest to the front door of Central Library are available to any vehicle for up to 15 minutes for library book drop-off.
  • Cost of charging is included in parking fee, if required. (No additional pay for parking.)
  • All County-owned public charging stations are Level 2 chargers.

To date, 51 charging ports have been installed in Arlington by the County. Residents can read more about the chargers and view the latest Board Meeting on the EV Rate Ordinance.

Types of Charging

You will be able to find different levels of chargers around town.

  • Level 2 Chargers: Commonly used for home, workplace and public charging. For reference, these can charge a light-duty vehicle from empty in 4-10 hours.
  • Level 3 Chargers: Also known as Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC), this equipment is commonly used as a public charger. For reference, it can charge a light-duty vehicle from empty to 80% in under an hour.

How to Find EV Charging

To locate EV charging stations, there are two comprehensive maps that include most chargers in the United States. First, the U.S. Department of Energy’s web-only Alternative Fueling Station Locator includes basic information on EV charging stations as well as fueling locations for other alternative fuels. Second, Plugshare is a crowd-sourced web- and app-based platform that includes greater filtering capability and user feedback on charging stations. The Plugshare map below can be used to quickly identify publicly-available chargers located in the County and in the region.

 

County-owned Public EV Charging Dashboard

The County tracks usage information at the County-owned EV charging stations and makes this information available to the public via the dashboard below. The dashboard is updated bi-annually. Click through the dashboard to see how the County's chargers are being used over time and across the different locations.
