Decarbonization Tool

Launched in 2023, the Decarbonization Tool (Decarb Tool) is a custom designed decision-support tool for modeling energy-performance upgrades at existing County facilities.

The Decarb Tool features:
• Analysis of 12 representative County facilities based on energy models
• Energy upgrade scenarios developed
• Feasibility consideration analyses applied to each measure scenarios

The Decarb Tool has been integrated into the facility upgrade process by providing key information and data on energy, GHG emissions and cost metrics for potential scenarios. This internal tool also helps to identify measures that can be bundled together to achieve greater energy performance and carbon reduction.

 

Better Climate Challenge

The Better Climate Challenge is the government platform that provides transparency, accountability, technical assistance and collaboration to identify decarbonization pathways and provide recognition for leadership across the US economy. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognized Arlington County, VA for committing to reduce portfolio-wide greenhouse gas emissions by at least 70% within 10 years (by 2034) and to work with DOE to share successful solutions and decarbonization strategies. As a partner in DOE’s Better Climate Challenge, Arlington County, VA is one of more than 150 organizations across the U.S. economy that are stepping up to the Challenge and driving real-world action toward a low-carbon future. View our partner profile.
