Sculptural Installations/Four Visions
Project Details
Location: Lubber Run Park, 300 N. Park Drive
Date: June 12-September 6, 1987
These installations were part of Sculptural Installations/Four Visions, a temporary sculpture exhibition at Lubber Run Park.
Serrate
Artist: Jerry Monteith
Materials: Green colored pressed board
Serrate consisted of four swelling sculptures that tapered skyward. From one angle, the forms resembled simplified houses while from another, they simulated ominous serrated blades. Although chromatically concurrent with its surroundings, Serrate contrasted with its serene environment due to its resemblance to large-scale cleavers.
Analogue
Artist: Lynn Schmidt
Materials: Sono tube, cement, reinforcement bar, gravel, house paint, perlite, wood
This free-standing, vertical sculpture was a conspicuous element in a sylvan setting. A cluster of stick-like forms extended from a cylindrical base and served as an analogue for growth and diversity in the natural world. The whiteness, however, emphasized its artificiality, setting it apart from its surroundings.
Accepting Responsibility
Artist: Mel Watkin
Materials: Wood, paint
Mel Watkin suspended four signs from trees in the park, each displaying a pair of hands. The hands did one of two things; they either held a vessel or spilled the contents within. These images encouraged viewers to contemplate the degree of responsibility they feel toward their community.
