PARK(ing) Day is an annual open-source global event where citizens and artists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into temporary public places.
For PARK(ing) Day 2015, six parking spaces at adjacent to Bozman Government Center were transformed into a vibrant lounge where guests could hang out and interact with Scott Pennington and Melissa Webb’s installation Political Punk Rack, a classic carnival game with a contemporary culture twist. Participants could then hop on an Art on the ART Bus outfitted with original artwork by Pennington exploring the aesthetics and energy present in the “temporary wonderland” created by a small-town carnival. Art on the ART Bus is a rotating mobile gallery exhibiting original art on Arlington’s public buses and is sponsored by Arlington Transit.
The project was part of Courthouse 2.0: Reimagining the Civic, a public art initiative aimed at sparking public conversation about the future Courthouse Square by exploring the interaction between civic space and civic life in Arlington in the twenty-first century. Learn more about Courthouse 2.0.
