Location: Clarendon Central Park, 3100 Clarendon Blvd.
Date: November 2002-January 2003
Artist Bridget Belkacemi transformed 19 park benches in Clarendon Central Park by covering them with brightly-colored cushions. The cushions were made by stuffing clear, heavy-gauge plastic with paper and covering them with picnic blankets. The artist also added trays with mirrors and combs on them. The project was intended to encourage community interaction. Excerpts from the Arlington County Code of Ordinances on loitering were printed on the trays and mirrors.
This project was exhibited through Off Site/On Site, a public art course offered through the Corcoran College of Art and Design.
